Michael Behrens is a native of West Virginia. In 2012, he graduated cum laude as an Honor’s Scholar from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Economics and minor in Spanish. In 2015, Michael graduated with his J.D from the West Virginia University College of Law, where he received honors for his achievement in the Immigration Law courses and practiced in the Immigration Law Clinic.
When Michael decided to go to law school, he planned to seek a position as in-house counsel. However, after working with the immigrant community in West Virginia and witnessing the many injustices of the immigration system, he discovered his passion for immigration law. Michael decided to leave West Virginia–where there is a limited immigrant population–so he could dedicate his practice to immigration law.
Michael has experience in various areas of immigration law, including family-based immigration, consular processing, removal defense, and humanitarian relief. He has extensive experience working with victims of crimes and other types of trauma, including domestic violence and human trafficking.
