Johann Daniel Lara Osorio

Since he was 8 years old, Johann always had the goal of becoming a lawyer. He wanted to bring more justice to this unjust world. As he grew up and went to Northwestern University, he, however, did not know what area of law he would pursue. As Johann double-majored in Legal Studies and History (of the Americas) he began learning about push and pull factors for Latin American immigrants, and learned about the way in which both of his parents emigrated to the United States from Colombia. His Christian faith was also pushing him to think of how he could use his talents, interests, and bilingual fluency in Spanish and English to impact the most people with his career. As he learned about immigration, he saw how unfair and discriminatory it was from its inception and he could not stand by seeing injustices abound. His heart broke after hearing stories of immigrants not being represented in proceedings and he detested how Donald Trump painted all immigrants as criminals. It was at that time that Johann decided to study and devote his law career to immigration.

Johann graduated law school in May 2023 with a Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School, where he concentrated and excelled in immigration law. Johann passed the bar and received his license in November 2023. He wanted to begin his career defending immigrants from deportation and was given the opportunity to join the Removal Defense team here at La Liga Defensora. Since then, he has helped defend countless clients in removal proceedings, providing compassionate, diligent advocacy to them.

He looks forward to continuing his work in defending the immigrant community and being a zealous advocate for the marginalized.
